baxter building book
The historic Baxter building in Portland was built in 1889 and served as the city’s public library for 90 years until it moved downtown. The building endured a brief period of vacancy and was then occupied by the Maine College of Art. In 2008 school consolidated to its main building and The VIA Agency moved in. Eight years of advertising and leadership in the creative community later VIA’s founder and President, John Coleman, decided to make Baxter the permanent home of the agency and bought the building at the end of 2016.
To commemorate the event VIA commissioned a book of the Baxter building’s history. The accompanying timeline was presented to John as an announcement of the project while the book was under construction.
